- Chiropody/podiatry
is a gentle form of treatment. Although involving the use of some
fearsome-looking instruments, such as nail-nippers and scalpels,
it is, in fact, pain-free and very
comforting.
- What
is the difference between a chiropodist and a podiatrist?
Absolutely none. Podiatrist is simply the modern term for
chiropodist. However, in order to use either of these titles
the practitioner must be fully-qualified and registered with
the Health Professions Council. This is a requirement for
reinbursment of most private health shemes, such as BHSF, Health
Shield, Simply Health, Westfield Health and Medicash etc.
- So what
exactly is chiropody/podiatry? It is the palliative treatment
of the feet, such as the removal of corns, callouses and
ingrowing toe-nails. Other treatments include the reduction
of thickened toe-nails; diagnosis & treatment of fungal
infections and viral infections such as verrucae (warts).
Treatments are also available for conditions such as fallen
arches, heel pain and hammer toes by exercises and/or the
fitting of custom-made orthotics, often alleviating the need for
invasive surgery. Where surgery, or any other form of
medical treatment is considered necessary, a referral to
either to the GP or a specialist would be
made.
- The
chiropodist/podiatrist is often the first person to recognise
conditions such as diabetes and circulatory disorders and is
fully qualified to treat the feet of patients with these
conditions. As a diabetic, it is essential to have the feet
thoroughly examined and treated on a regular basis.
Chiropodists/Podiatrists are also trained to recognise skin
disorders and to recommend a referral to a dermatologist if
necessary.
- The
surgery at Wells Green is bright, clean and relaxing. Upon
arrival a warm and soothing foot-spa is offered whilst a
full medical history is taken. Most treatments end with
either a soothing massage or comfort padding. The majority
of patients depart saying they feel like they are “walking
on air”.
- The
cost of an initial half-hour treatment is £25 - £30 . If a further
appointment is necessary the charge would be advised after the
first treatment. The cost of orthotics, including
biomechanical assessment would be advised at the time of
treatment.
-
Toe Nail Trimming Service: If you find it difficult
to cut your own toe nails, there is a nail-trimming service
available from £20 (including foot spa and
massage).
- Normal
waiting time for an appointment is a day to a
week.
- Parking
for up to 3 vehicles is available directly in front of the
surgery entrance.
- Bus
services from both Crewe & Nantwich run every 15 minutes with
the stops just a minute or so walk from the
surgery.
- Patients
are protected by Full public liability insurance
cover.
